Crime & Justice

As
a member of the Judiciary Committee, Senator Feinstein works tirelessly
to make our communities safer by advocating for legislation to
ban assault weapons, crack down on gang violence, tackle the methamphetamine
epidemic, prevent identity theft, prohibit audio and video piracy,
and protect the rights of crime victims. Senator Feinstein is
the author of the ten-year assault weapons ban (which Congress
failed to renew last year despite her efforts), the Crime Victims
Rights Act, and legislation creating the National AMBER Alert
Network. She is also a co-sponsor of legislation creating the
COPS program which put 100,000 additional police officers on the
street, the Hate Crimes Sentencing Act, and has played a leading
role in the fight against drug trafficking.
Another major responsibility of Senator Feinsteins is
to ensure that our federal judiciary has highly-qualified and
objective judges and the resources it needs to administer justice
fairly. With each judicial nomination, Senator Feinstein carefully,
fairly and independently reviews a nominees record to
make certain that the judges in our federal courts will uphold
the highest standards.
