Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today issued the following statement on the ceasefire between Yemeni pro-government forces and Houthi rebels in the city of Hudaydah:

“The humanitarian crisis that has unfolded in Yemen is heartbreaking. Today’s ceasefire in Hudaydah will hopefully allow aid to finally reach the millions of Yemenis who face starvation and help build momentum toward a final peace agreement.

“The Yemen civil war has directly killed more than 60,000 people. Unfortunately, that is only part of the story. More than 85,000 children have starved to death and millions more are on the brink of that same fate—the tragic result of targeted attacks on Yemen’s infrastructure and blockade of the port in Hudaydah.

“I commend the United Nations for bringing both sides to the negotiating table, and I urge the Trump administration to continue working with our international partners to bring an end to this horrible war.”
