Washington—Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the indictment of 12 Russian military intelligence officers for hacking during the 2016 U.S. election:
“Today’s indictment of a dozen Russian military intelligence officials confirms that hacking of Democrats during the 2016 campaign was conducted by Russia’s intelligence services, a campaign that the U.S. intelligence community has already assessed was directed by Vladimir Putin.
“Given the serious allegations in this indictment, I support Senator Schumer’s call for President Trump to cancel his meeting with Vladimir Putin until Russia takes meaningful steps to prove it won’t interfere in future elections.
“The indictment of these 12 Russians provides further evidence that Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation is following the facts and producing tangible results. One allegation in today’s indictment that we need to know more about is that Russians communicated with at least one American who ‘was in regular contact with senior members of the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump’ about the release of stolen documents.
“We must stand together as Americans to learn everything we can about how Russia interfered – and continues to interfere – with our elections and make sure it never happens again.”
