Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released the following statement after meeting with Martha Barcena, the incoming Mexican ambassador to the United States:

“I want to thank Ambassador Barcena for meeting with me today. It was a very productive meeting that touched on several issues important to California.

“We discussed the problem of pollution along the border, particularly on the Tijuana and New Rivers, as well as ways to improve water infrastructure to protect the surrounding communities. We also discussed the benefits of trade on both sides of the border and ways our two countries can work together to ensure immigrants are treated more humanely.

“This was the first of many conversations I plan to have with Ambassador Barcena, and I look forward to working with her on the issues critically important to California and Mexico.”
