Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today issued the following statement on the passing of President George H.W. Bush:
“There’s no question that George H.W. Bush led our country through a time of turmoil. The fall of the Soviet Union and the Gulf War were both defining moments that continue to shape our nation today.
“But his service started many years before. An accomplished World War II pilot, a member of Congress, U.N. ambassador, CIA director and vice president, George Bush dedicated his life to public service. I was proud to work closely with President and Barbara Bush on the American Cancer Society’s National Dialogue on Cancer, a fight that we continue to this day.
“President Bush’s ‘thousand points of light’ speech talked about how we must have a compassionate White House and that empathy has a big role to play in every president’s decisions. My thoughts are with the country, but even more so with President Bush’s loving family. He’ll be missed.”
