Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision upholding a ban on carrying concealed weapons in public:
“The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals today upheld a California law that restricts the ability to carry concealed weapons in public. This ruling affirms that commonsense safety rules to reduce gun violence and protect the public are consistent with the Second Amendment and Supreme Court precedent. This is a significant victory for public safety and for local jurisdictions that apply sensible policies to protect the public.
“To combat gun violence in this country, which claims the lives of more than 11,000 people per year, we must do everything we can to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and other potentially dangerous individuals. This includes reducing the risk of gun violence in public places. The court’s ruling today helps clarify that local efforts to promote gun safety are consistent with the Constitution.”
