Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today issued the following statement on the Trump administration’s decision to impose a 30 percent tariff on solar panel imports:
“President Trump’s latest attack on renewable energy will hurt American workers and drive up prices for consumers. Once again, the president has allowed campaign promises to come before the best interests of our country.
“The vast majority of the 250,000 American solar jobs are in installation and sales, not in manufacturing. In fact, ‘solar installer’ is expected to be one of the fastest growing jobs over the next decade.
“Instead of fostering that growth, the solar industry expects these tariffs will cost 23,000 American jobs in the first year alone. This is particularly troubling in California, where more than a third of solar jobs are located.
“The cost of solar energy has fallen dramatically over the past decade, making renewable energy accessible to millions of Americans and creating jobs at a faster rate than fossil fuels. California can’t let President Trump hobble our progress toward a clean energy future.”
