Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today welcomed the decision of President Obama to require the Environmental Protection Agency to review California’s waiver request.
“This is great news for California,” Senator Feinstein said. “President Obama’s announcement will ensure that the State’s waiver request is reviewed by the EPA on the basis of its scientific and legal merits, rather than political considerations.
If granted, the waiver would enable California and at least 13 other states to curb cumulative greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles by about 450 million metric tons below projected levels by 2020.
It’s a major step forward – and a signal that California now has an ally in the White House who will work with us in the fight against climate change.”
