Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement in reaction to the agreement between the United States and Russia regarding the civil war in Syria:

“The agreement announced between the United States and Russia is an encouraging step toward ending the horrific civil war that has resulted in the death of more than 250,000 Syrians and the displacement of millions more.

“We’ve seen the heartbreaking photos of children: a three-year-old who drowned during his family’s dangerous journey across the ocean, a shocked five-year-old sitting in the back of an ambulance covered in blood and dust. The world has an obligation to come together to end this unspeakable horror.

“Russia’s actions to this point have bolstered the Assad regime, allowing the indiscriminate slaughter of innocent civilians and making it more difficult to achieve the political solution necessary to end this war.

“The Russians will need to demonstrate their long-term commitment to resolving this conflict and I look forward to examining the details of the agreement.”
