Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on President Trump’s decision to stop releasing data on drone strikes:
“President Trump this week eliminated a requirement that the Director of National Intelligence release an annual report on U.S. drone strikes outside of warzones that includes civilian casualty numbers.
“This is an important report. I advocated for its creation in 2014 as a way for the public to gauge the value of the U.S. drone program and understand the care with which these operations are conducted. Hiding this information moves us in the wrong direction.
“I plan to offer an amendment to the defense authorization bill this year to codify making this report public. The American people deserve to know more about the U.S. drone program and its effects around the world, and this report is one tool to help accomplish that.”
