Press Releases
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Haiti after this devastating earthquake. It is too soon to understand the full scope of the damages, but already we can see heartbreaking images of the terrible loss of life, of property, and of basic human services throughout this impoverished island nation. This is a true human catastrophe in the making.
As one from an earthquake prone state, I can only imagine the suffering and fear that the people of Haiti are experiencing. Now is the time for the U.S. government, private relief organizations and concerned citizens to do whatever we can to help in this desperate hour of need.
I have directed my staff to work with the State Department, the Homeland Security Department, the Defense Department and other federal and local agencies to provide whatever emergency assistance we can offer.
Finally, I would like to let the people of California know that my office is standing by to help those who have loved ones in Haiti.”
