Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today issued the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s decision to repeal President Obama’s Clean Power Plan:

“President Trump’s decision to repeal the Clean Power Plan, announced by President Obama in 2015, ignores the reality happening all around us.

“This decision is incredibly destructive to a carefully-planned program to convert power plants from very dirty power to clean power. How can a president do this in light of what’s happening around the country and around the world?

“One need only look at the devastating wildfires, increasingly destructive storms, an ocean that continues to get warmer and collapsing ice shelves to realize the world has a climate problem.

“Under President Obama’s Clean Power Plan, the United States would have reduced carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity sector by 32 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. We were on track to meet that goal, but today’s action puts those accomplishments at risk.

“I know that regardless of federal action, California will continue to lead the way. We have already set a goal of 50 percent clean energy by 2030, and we’ve shown that economic growth is possible while making smart investments in clean energy. California will continue to do our part to fight climate change.”
