Washington—Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released a letter from Judge John D. Bates regarding proposals to amend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, particularly the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. The letter and attachment have not previously been made public.

Judge Bates is a federal district court judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and the former presiding judge of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. He currently serves as the Director of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.
