Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on President Trump abandoning the nuclear summit with North Korea:
“President Trump’s decision to accept an invitation to meet with Kim Jong Un without a crystal clear understanding of the agenda or sufficient preparation has now backfired.
“By canceling the summit with North Korea, the president has now walked away from two diplomatic efforts to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of hostile nations. Ignoring the pleas of our allies and abandoning the Iran nuclear agreement, he created one nuclear crisis in the Middle East while dealing with another on the Korean Peninsula.
“True diplomacy requires a delicate touch, not pomp and showmanship. If the president is serious about achieving peace, he’ll drop the facade, study the issues and work closely with our allies on substantive efforts that produce actual results.”
