Feinstein Statement on Blocking of Cadiz Bill
Sep 01 2017
Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement after AB 1000, a bill to block Cadiz, was not allowed to move forward in the California State Senate:
“I’m deeply disappointed that the state legislature is actively blocking a bill to prevent Cadiz—one of the Trump administration’s pet projects—from destroying the Mojave Desert. The desert is one of California’s greatest treasures, and it’s incumbent upon the legislature to resist efforts by the Trump administration to harm it.
“AB 1000 is also supported by Governor Brown, Lt. Governor Newsom, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the California League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, the National Parks Conservation Association, the Nature Conservancy and the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council.
“I have been fighting Cadiz and its efforts to extract unsustainable levels of water from the Mojave Desert for decades. It is unfortunate that Cadiz’s ability to stymie commonsense environmental protections has temporarily succeeded once again.
“Blocking Cadiz is one concrete way to stop the Trump administration from hurting California. I hope our state leaders reconsider this bill and move it forward.”
