Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement after John Bryson was confirmed as Commerce Secretary. Bryson is a former chairman, CEO and president of Edison International and a Californian.

“John Bryson is enormously well-suited to serve as Commerce Secretary, particularly at a time when our economy remains fragile and job creation isn’t occurring fast enough. His experience running a multi-billion-dollar company, his success as an advocate for business and his readiness to advance a jobs agenda are the precise characteristics we need for this job.

“I worked with John often during the California energy crisis in 2000 and 2001 and found him to be an intelligent and pragmatic executive. When other utilities failed, he guided Edison International through the storm and helped keep the power on for millions of Californians.

“John knows the business world and is not beholden to special interests. In the past we may have disagreed on his company’s dependence on coal-fired power plants in the Midwest, but not once did John fail to defend his company and advocate for its interests. John’s practical outlook, his experience in the board room and his understanding of the public sector will make him an outstanding Commerce Secretary.”
