Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today issued the following statement on the short-term funding deal to re-open the government through February 15:
“I’m relieved President Trump has agreed to end his shutdown and let 800,000 federal employees and contractors go back to work and receive their paychecks. No matter the issue, a government shutdown should never be used as a negotiating tactic.
“We’ve been asking for the government to be opened and negotiations to proceed over border security and immigration reform. Today, the president and Senate Republicans have agreed to do just that, and I look forward to rolling up our sleeves and reaching a long-term agreement to keep the government open.
“But we can’t keep governing week-to-week. The chaos and harm inflicted by this shutdown will have lasting effects – we can’t afford another one.”
