Press Releases

Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement after President Trump’s press conference with Vladimir Putin:

“President Trump’s performance over the last week has been outrageous. After doing his best to undermine NATO and insult our closest allies, today he stands arm-in-arm with Vladimir Putin and does nothing to hold Putin accountable for his actions.

“President Trump not only rejected the U.S. intelligence community’s unanimous public assessment that Russia interfered in our elections, he went so far as to say Russia’s attacks on us were our fault, that poor relations are due to U.S. ‘foolishness and stupidity.’

“Instead of demanding Putin turn over the 25 Russians that Trump's own Justice Department indicted for hacking U.S. political parties and interfering in our elections, President Trump was silent. When Putin said Russia should be allowed to interrogate U.S. intelligence personnel, President Trump was silent. And when a reporter asked if Russia has compromising information on President Trump, the leaders ended the press conference.

“You don’t need to be an expert diplomat to know that Russia is our adversary. Russia illegally annexed Crimea and continues to arm separatists in Ukraine. Russia continues to back the murderous Assad regime in Syria. Russia even used chemical weapons to assassinate supposed enemies on foreign soil.

“President Trump has to stop kowtowing to Vladimir Putin, and his Republican allies in Washington have to stand up and say enough is enough. Whatever the reason behind President Trump’s cozy relationship with Vladimir Putin, it needs to stop. The president’s actions are undermining our national security.”
