Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released the following statement after supporting a temporary funding bill to keep the government open through April:

“Keeping the government open is the most basic, and in my view, inviolable responsibility of Congress. While this temporary funding bill contains several controversial provisions that I don’t support and fails to fully protect coal miners’ guaranteed healthcare benefits, on balance, it didn’t warrant shutting down the government right before Christmas.

“I am disappointed that yet another stop-gap funding bill has become necessary to avoid a government shutdown. Hopefully in the new year, Congress will return to passing funding bills on a timely basis to provide certainty to the American economy.”
