Washington— Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the shooting of two police officers in San Diego:

“I’m heartbroken by the shooting of two police officers in San Diego that left one dead and the other hospitalized. These officers were just doing their jobs, and my thoughts are with them and their families during this incredibly difficult time.

“The murder of police in San Diego and Dallas and the shooting of individuals in Baton Rouge and St. Paul may not be directly related to each other, but the pattern of violence we’re seeing is indisputable.

“Police should never be targets. Innocent individuals should never be shot to death during routine encounters with law enforcement. These actions will only reinforce each other, and we simply can’t let this become the new normal. Our communities must come together to heal and bridge our divides.”
