Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) expressed disappointment that San Francisco missed the opportunity to house the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. It was announced yesterday the museum will be built in Chicago.

Distinguished filmmaker and “Star Wars” creator George Lucas had long been interested in building the museum, which would house his collection of art and memorabilia, in San Francisco. However, the Presidio Trust rejected the original proposal to house the museum at Crissy Field and subsequent attempts to find a suitable location in San Francisco failed.

“I am deeply disappointed that George Lucas has decided to build his museum in Chicago,” said Feinstein. “San Francisco would have benefited greatly from this project, and it is truly a missed opportunity.”

Feinstein added: “I appreciate Mayor Lee’s efforts but very much regret how George Lucas has been treated by the Presidio Trust Board over the past four years. I hope this incident leads to a thorough review and overhaul of the procedures used by the Trust.”
