Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement to mark the opening of Los Angeles County’s human trafficking task force:
“The opening of Los Angeles County’s human trafficking task force marks a giant step forward in ongoing efforts to arrest and prosecute traffickers and buyers and rescue victims.
“Sex trafficking is a multi-billion dollar underground economy in California, and Los Angeles is a central hub used to move girls around the state. Combating this horrific crime requires cooperation and coordination, and the task force will facilitate that.
“Sheriff McDonnell has shown outstanding leadership on this issue, and the launch of this task force is thanks to his tireless efforts. I strongly believe that Los Angeles has the potential to serve as a national model for how to end this scourge on our society.”
Feinstein this week authored an op-ed on the drivers of the increase in trafficking and how to address it.
