Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today voted against a bill that overturns the Federal Communications Commission’s consumer-privacy rules. The bill passed on a party-line vote:

“The Federal Communications Commission last year adopted new rules to protect consumer privacy. These commonsense rules require that Internet companies obtain consent before using or sharing personal information. This includes everything from financial and health information to an individual’s location.

“Corporations should not be allowed to make money from personal information if a person doesn’t know about it or consent to it. Republicans continue to put the economic interests of big corporations ahead of the rights of everyday Americans.”
