Washington—Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on reports that ICE raids on thousands of immigrant families will take place this weekend:

            “Reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement this weekend plans to target 10 major cities and deport thousands of families are very concerning.

            “I’ve said many times that ICE needs to prioritize the deportation of serious criminals and those who pose national security risks, not families that are otherwise following the law and contributing to their communities. Targeting all undocumented immigrants equally for deportation, rather than focusing on high-risk individuals, is an irresponsible use of our limited resources.

            “I’m also very concerned about the harmful effects such enforcement sweeps have on children. In some cases we’ve seen parents deported while their children are left behind. That’s inhumane and should not be permitted.”
