Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the Trump administration’s proposed rule to prohibit medical providers who provide women with the full-range of reproductive health care from Title X federal family planning funding.

“All Americans deserve to see the health care provider of their choice—one they know and trust. Republicans and candidate-Trump launched endless bad faith attacks on the Affordable Care Act on these grounds. Yet, there’s suddenly a different standard when it comes to women’s health. The Trump administration now wants to enact a rule that would substitute the government’s judgement for patients’ judgement.

“This is an undisguised attempt to shut down Planned Parenthood and it’s shameful. The immediate effect of President Trump’s proposed rule would be to harm 1.5 million patients who would lose access to their health provider. This is nothing more than a disgusting political attack at the expense of women’s health.

“The truth is Planned Parenthood has been a trusted health care provider for millions of patients for more than a century. It’s the only federally funded health care provider offering comprehensive family planning care in many communities, especially for low-income patients. There are seven counties in California where Planned Parenthood is the only health provider offering comprehensive reproductive health services.

“Planned Parenthood has been under attack by Republicans for decades. These attacks are shameful and I will never stop fighting against them.”
