Press Releases
Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement after Congressman Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) and Congressman Leonard Lance (R-N.J.) released a discussion draft of legislation to update the federal safety rules for personal care products:
“I’d like to thank Congressman Pallone and Congressman Lance for working toward the introduction of bipartisan companion legislation to the Personal Care Products Safety Act in the House of Representatives.
“The draft released today includes key policies in my legislation with Senator Collins: independent ingredient review conducted by the FDA, reporting of adverse health events, recall authority and product registration.
“Any bill to update the nearly 80-year-old safety rules for personal care products must be bipartisan and have support from industry, as well as health and consumer organizations. It’s good to see that this discussion draft meets that test.
“Senator Collins and I are working hard to advance our bill in the Senate. We are looking forward to the upcoming hearing in the HELP Committee and are eager to work with Congressman Pallone and Congressman Lance.”
