Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) issued the following statement on a lawsuit brought by California, 16 other states and the District of Columbia against the EPA after the Trump administration threw out a technical analysis on the current vehicle emission standards. Senator Feinstein authored the bipartisan Ten-in-Ten Fuel Economy Act in 2007, which requires the strongest possible fuel economy standards based on the latest technology.

“The Trump administration cannot ignore the science and the law. If the administration continues down this path to weaken the fuel economy standards set in conjunction with California, they’ll be inviting additional lawsuits.

“The 1,200-page technical analysis found the current standards were working and at a much lower cost for the car manufacturers. There simply is no acceptable justification for throwing the analysis out in order to roll back the standards.”
