Feinstein Statement on Clean Power Plan
Aug 03 2015
Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today welcomed the announcement of the Obama administration’s final Clean Power Plan. Feinstein released the following statement:
“As California faces massive wildfires and a historic drought, we’re reminded of the need to avoid the devastating effects of a warming planet. Until we confront climate change head-on, these problems will only get worse. President Obama’s Clean Power Plan is a strong step in the right direction. It’s an opportunity to bring the whole country together to take achievable, meaningful action to reduce our carbon footprint, while at the same time spurring economic development.
“The Clean Power Plan seeks to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity sector by 32 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. Over the same timeframe, renewable energy is projected to grow to 28 percent of our national electric capacity, and California aims to have half its energy come from renewable sources.
“The world is watching us. This plan builds momentum for international talks in Paris and should encourage others to follow suit. It sends an unmistakable signal to the world: There is a cleaner energy future ahead, and the United States will continue to lead the way.”
