Feinstein: Aliso Canyon Should Remain Closed
Jul 20 2017
Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) issued the following statement after California regulators cleared Aliso Canyon to resume limited operations:
“Aliso Canyon proved to be an immediate danger to the people living nearby, forcing more than 8,000 families from their homes. State inspectors may have cleared the facility to resume limited operations, but I believe it should remain closed.
“While I’m disappointed the facility will reopen, I’m pleased to learn Governor Brown has directed state agencies to plan for its permanent shutdown. I agree that Aliso Canyon is not consistent with our long-term climate change goals. It’s time for Southern California to move beyond Aliso Canyon and work toward a cleaner, safer energy system.”
