Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement in conjunction with the Harvey Milk Forever Stamp first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony:

“My friend and colleague Harvey Milk was an inspiring leader whose legacy has lasted far beyond his years, and I am happy to see him honored in this way,” said Feinstein. “At a time when LGBT individuals were ostracized from society, Harvey was a revolutionary, unafraid to do what was right. He has been an inspiration to millions.”

“Today, we celebrate what Harvey stood for: equal rights for all. This is an essential American ideal, and thanks to people like Harvey, who fearlessly stood up against hatred and prejudice, we have made so much progress in the past three decades. Honoring Harvey is a way to honor all LGBT Americans and their contributions to our country. While his life was tragically cut short, his mission and his example are alive and well.”
