Washington— Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement in support of Bill Scott’s appointment as the next police chief for the San Francisco Police Department. Scott is a 25-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, serving the last two years as the deputy chief leading the department's 1,700-member South Bureau.

“Deputy Chief Bill Scott is a fine law enforcement officer, well-respected by his fellow officers and the people of Los Angeles. He has strong field experience in a major and critical area of Los Angeles. The reports I’ve received are all positive.

“LAPD’s South Bureau is one of the most challenging beats in the nation with a high homicide rate and extreme poverty, yet Deputy Chief Scott has earned a reputation as a selfless leader within the community. He’s often the first on the scene when a major incident occurs and regularly makes himself available to answer the community’s questions or hear their concerns.

“My Los Angeles staff has had the opportunity to work with Deputy Chief Scott on several occasions and found him to be a man of integrity who possesses a genuine commitment to public service.

“I congratulate Bill Scott on his appointment and I’m delighted to welcome him to San Francisco.”
