Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the shooting at a synagogue in Poway, Calif.:
“Hearing about the shooting at Congregation Chabad in Poway breaks my heart. My thoughts are with the victims of this horrific attack.
“While we’re still learning exactly what happened, I want to be clear that hate has no place in our country. It’s a fact that we’re facing a rise in hate crimes and all of us have a duty to condemn hatred in all its forms whenever we see it.
"Reports that the shooter used an AR-15 rifle are particularly troubling. These military-style assault weapons are far too easy to purchase, often with no background check at all, and they’re designed to be as deadly as possible.
“We're the only country in the world that allows civilians such easy access to weapons of war. It’s far past time that we put in place concrete, commonsense gun safety policies to take these weapons off the streets.
“Our country is turning into a place where children can’t go to school without live-fire exercises and people can't worship without the fear of gun violence. Enough is enough.”
