Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein issued the following statement today after Republicans used a motion to block the Senate from bringing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” to a vote:
“I am very disappointed that the Senate did not vote today to proceed to the Defense Authorization bill and the repeal of ‘Don't ask, don't tell.’
‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ is the wrong policy for our military. It deprives our military of badly needed talent. It tells our gay soldiers that they will be discharged from the service they love if they are true to who they are. And it flies in the face of some of our most fundamental constitutional guarantees of personal liberty and equal justice under law.
The Senate should take whatever time it takes to repeal this policy before the end of the year.”
