Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement commending President Obama’s speech on the Iran nuclear agreement:

“President Obama gave a strong and heartfelt speech today and it only reinforces my decision to support the historic nuclear agreement with Iran. The president made a compelling case for the agreement and confronted naysayers head-on. Importantly, he showed that the United States will always stand up for Israel and its security. I hope my colleagues and all Americans have the opportunity to watch this speech and consider the facts.

“Over the past few weeks the agreement has weathered intense scrutiny. Today’s speech coincides with a series of announcements from congressional Democrats that they will support the deal. I believe this is proof positive that the more the technical merits are evaluated, the clearer the agreement’s value becomes.

“Pursuing diplomacy before resorting to war must be the hallmark of American global leadership. Today, I stand proudly with the president for a peaceful, diplomatic solution to this national security challenge.”
