Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today issued the following statement in response to the decision of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to not issue a drinking-water safety standard for perchlorate, a toxic chemical used to produce rocket fuel.

“The failure of EPA to issue a drinking water standard on perchlorate is, candidly, mind-boggling.

There is no question that science indicates that perchlorate is harmful, particularly to the health of infants and pregnant women. So, to have a governmental entity like the EPA refuse to issue a safety standard is simply unconscionable.

Bottom line: to have the White House interfere with a scientific decision simply indicates to me that the time has come for real change.”
