Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on President Trump’s policies toward Iran:

“President Trump’s approach toward Iran has raised tensions and is pushing us closer to another Middle East conflict. The president should reconsider his bellicose posturing and instead search for a diplomatic solution.

“President Trump’s strategy was designed to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and curtail its support for terrorism, ballistic missile program and penchant for meddling in neighboring countries. Now that Iran is taking steps toward exiting the nuclear agreement and has expanded its hostile behavior, it’s clear the president’s approach is failing.

“The United States needs to reopen communication between the two countries, deescalate the emerging crisis and find a resolution in the interest of both nations. That won’t happen if President Trump continues to push us down the path of war.”
