Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the passing of Congressman Elijah Cummings:

            “Elijah Cummings was a champion for Baltimore and its residents, for Maryland and for our country. His passion and eloquence will be desperately missed.

            “I was always struck by the dignity of Congressman Cummings, by his presence. Even when forces were arrayed against him, he never wavered in his humanity. He was always respectful, but he never backed down.

            “My thoughts go out to his friends, family and constituents, each of whom are suffering today. My everlasting thanks for everything he’s done for our nation.”
