Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released the following statement on President Trump’s replacement for the Clean Power Plan:
“The administration’s power plan is inadequate, completely ignores the reality of climate change and rolls back the progress made by the Clean Power Plan. Specifically, it eliminates the emissions standards that by 2030 would have reduced carbon emissions by 32 percent below 2012 levels.
“California is on the frontline in the global fight against climate change. More deadly wildfires are threatening our communities, prolonged droughts are straining our water supply and rising sea levels are deteriorating our coastal infrastructure. And in the absence of leadership from the White House, California is stepping up.
“California is ahead of schedule to become carbon neutral by 2045, as mandated by state law. At the same time, we’re growing our economy to be the fifth largest in the world, proving that investing in clean energy innovation strengthens the economy.
“The president may have no interest in addressing climate change, but that doesn’t change the fact that it demands action. It’s having a profound effect on our way of life right now, and refusing to act will have dire consequences.
“That’s while I’ll continue to work with my colleagues to oppose this plan and push for real steps to combat climate change.”
