Feinstein, Whitehouse, Boxer Congratulate America’s Cup Team

U.S. Senate approves resolution commending Team USA’s come from behind victory

Washington—The United States Senate today passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer (both D-Calif.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) congratulating Oracle Team USA for winning the 34th America’s Cup.

On September 25th in San Francisco, Oracle Team USA defeated Emirates Team New Zealand 9-8, claiming their second consecutive America’s Cup victory. Oracle Team USA had lost 8 of its first 11 races before winning the next 7 consecutive races to set up a final victory in the winner-take-all race.

Senator Feinstein said: “Watching Team Oracle USA’s America’s Cup victory was to witness one of the greatest, most exciting comebacks in sports history. I’m proud Team USA’s victory happened in the San Francisco Bay, where tens of thousands watched the team expertly guide the fastest, most advanced boats in the history of the tournament. I look forward to watching the team defend its title in American waters for years to come.”

Senator Whitehouse said: “The America’s Cup has a long and storied tradition, particularly in Rhode Island. This resolution honors the hard work and perseverance of Larry Ellison and his team – including Rhode Island’s own Rome Kirby – for their exciting and amazing comeback victory in this year’s competition. I’m proud that Team USA prevailed this year in San Francisco, as it did so many times during the fifty years when the races were held in Newport.”
