Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi Arabia in its diplomatic consulate in Turkey:
“A year after the brutal killing of Jamal Khashoggi, his murderers have yet to be held responsible.
“The United Nations found credible evidence that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was responsible for the murder, yet, to this day the Saudi government implausibly insists that rogue actors committed the crime.
“Sadly, Khashoggi’s murder was far from an isolated incident. It’s another step in the troubling direction Saudi Arabia has taken under the crown prince’s reign. Saudi Arabia continues to jail female activists, torture prisoners and wage a terrible war in Yemen.
“To date, the administration has taken insufficient steps ensure Khashoggi’s murderers are held accountable. I urge the president to make clear to Saudi Arabia that America will not support such blatant violations of human rights.”
