Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement after Secretary of State Pompeo announced he will bar 16 Saudis who were linked to the Khashoggi murder:
“I’m pleased to hear the Trump administration has taken at least some limited action against Saudi Arabia for the brutal and unprecedented killing and dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
“In this day and age, I never thought a country would perform such an inhumane act. It’s unforgettable and has the real impact of changing one’s view on what was once a close U.S. ally.
“The brutal killing of Mr. Khashoggi showed the length that Saudi Arabia would go to discourage someone who wanted to live a free and open life. Putting together a death squad to torture, kill and dismember this U.S. resident and journalist was both despicable and unforgiveable.
“I commend the administration for at least taking this action. For me personally, I won’t vote for a single penny of U.S. support for Saudi Arabia as long as a government with so little respect for human life remains in power.”
